bartenfelder conceded the race, making kevin kamenetz the democratic nominee. we will hear from him in a minute. the race that is still too close to call -- baltimore city state's attorney. patricia jessamy is trailing gregg bernstein -- gregg bernstein. 11 news has learned that problems with voting machines are preventing anyone from declaring a winner in this race. we have like team coverage. we began with jayne miller live at the baltimore city board of elections with the latest on the state's attorney's race. >> it would not be called a problem, but the votes have not been counted, that is why no one has declared victory or conceded defeat. here's what is going on at the moment -- if the challenger, gregg bernstein, does have a lead over pat jessamy of 1421 with 97% of the city's 290 precess -- precepts been tallied. we spoke with the city election chief about 45 minutes ago. how many votes do you think are in play in terms of those that have not been counted? >> well, i have no idea. they are from different places around the city. >> there was not a heavy turnout. >> not at all. very disa

. our report tonight from nbc's kevin tibbles who is with us from detroit. kevin, good evening. >> reporter: good evening, brian. when the winds hit detroit last night they set off a firestorm that threatened to consume entire neighborhoods. along this street alone, four houses burned before the fire department even got here. in just a few hours the detroit fire department was confronted with 85 buildings burning out of control. many of them abandoned homes and other vacant structures in sections of the motor city hit hard by the struggling economy. eight of the fires started when power lines were downed by heavy sustained winds. the flames whipped by strong gusts up to 50 miles per hour, sending plumes of smoke into the air. >> it was chaos. seemed like they couldn't get it under control. >> reporter: many tinder dry adjoining structures caught fire from the flying sparks. >> i have never seen fire move like that. you couldn't see. there was so much smoke just looking like debris from a tornado. >> reporter: today, detroit's mayor praised the motor city's first responders. >>

from towson, a fixture in local politics for years. waging at a battle against joe barton. kevin raised $1.3 million. on television early in the campaign. the mood seems to be very upbeat at this hour. we are waiting for kevin to agree to his supporters. as i said, they are optimistic at this point. we are still waiting at the pikesville hilton. back to you. >> here is a look at the numbers for baltimore county executive. joe barton felter, 41%. kevin, 56%. 12% of the votes in. our reporter is live tonight. >> this is a room full of anticipation, as about 300 of his supporters are anxiously waiting for the final numbers to comment. as we look at some of the videos it -- i can tell you, they have made several announcements here. barton felder has a slight lead. will be a very long night, but it may be awhile before all of the official numbers come in. a lot of times, something in the eastern parts of the county, that includes his district -- the campaign spokesperson told me minutes ago that he felt confident that regardless of the outcome he feels very proud of the campaign he has run.
